Getting a new entertainment space in Reading
I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a party where we ran out space. I chose to search near Reading Station.
I stumbled upon the site while scrolling and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens replied with a price that seemed fair for the job.
The journey of planning this project was honestly quite detailed. I spent several days thinking on the layout of the room before even picking up the phone. My lounge area has constantly felt a bit unfinished, and having a proper zone for drinks felt like the ideal solution to that issue. I recall standing in my kitchen looking at a cluttered surface filled with bottles and feeling that something had to change. The first conversation with the team was very straightforward, which gave me confidence. We talked different aesthetics, from modern sleek looks to more classic and timber textures. I was quite surprised by how much information they wanted regarding the dimensions and the current interior of my home. It seemed like they genuinely desired the final result to blend seamlessly with the rest of the building. I provided multiple angles in the images I sent, making sure every nook was clear. They clarified that the bespoke type of the furniture meant that precision was absolutely paramount to prevent any problems during the installation. We moved back and forth on possible resources, searching at swatches of quartz and various kinds of timber grain. It is surprising how many consideration goes into selecting the correct hardware, like pulls and copyrights, which can totally alter the vibe of the whole construction. I wanted a space where I could easily prepare drinks for guests without having to constantly run back to the kitchen for ice or glasses. The ease of possessing all items in a single place was the primary driver for this investment. We finalised the design after a brief meeting where every one of my questions regarding plumbing and electric sockets were addressed. I liked that they did not rush the planning stage, taking the time to ensure that the depth of the shelving was sufficient for my tallest bottles. It seemed like a joint process rather than a simple sale, which is rare to find nowadays.
The fitting date came sooner than anticipated, and the fitter was punctual and prepared. He started by placing down protective covers to ensure my flooring remained clean. Watching the components being unpacked was fascinating, as the standard of the fitted bar materials was instantly evident. He carefully verified the levels of the floor before securing the base frame of the bar. I watched as the structure slowly took form, changing a boring corner into a functional feature. The degree of craftsmanship involved in scribing the panels to the uneven walls of my period home was impressive. He mentioned why each section fitted in to create maximum stability. We spent a little duration deciding on the exact height for the built-in cooler, ensuring it was accessible to open but hidden away from main view. The installation of the worktop was the highly rewarding part of the entire process. Seeing the smooth top finally resting on the base made the project feel real. He then installed the mirrored backing, which instantly caused the space to look twice the breadth. The lighting were wired next, and checking them for the initial moment was a highlight. The warm light below the shelves highlighted the glassware beautifully. I was able to visualise exactly how handy this might be for evening events. The worker was highly diligent, spending the effort to wipe down each area and clear any debris made during the drilling. He also showed me how to move the shelves should I later wanted to store bigger items. The attention to precision was truly exceptional, right down to the sealant lines around the edges. It was obvious that he had immense pride in his craft, which is always reassuring to see. We conducted a last walkthrough of the completed installation to ensure all was perfect. I noted that a single handle was a bit wobbly, and he tightened it straight away with a fast twist of a screwdriver. This diligence is exactly what I was looking for when I booked the service.
The completed bar looks absolutely stunning and has turned into the focal point of my home. It provides a classy vibe that was previously missing from my living room. The capacity is huge, allowing me to sort all my liquors, mixers, and specialist glasses in a cohesive place. No more do I have to search inside cramped kitchen shelves to find a corkscrew or a specific kind of tumbler. Everything has its proper home, which renders entertaining so more easier and relaxing. I love the way the finishes catch the light in the afternoons, creating a warm ambience. My guests have already praised the setup multiple occasions, with some actually asking for the contact of the company who made it. It truly feels like a bespoke extra tailored specifically for my needs. The elevation of the countertop is ideal for leaning by with a drink, and the integrated LED strips offer just the correct level of glow without being overpowering. Even when not in use, it serves as a lovely piece of cabinetry that elevates the entire aesthetic of the property. I used some time arranging my bottles on the racks to create a pleasing display. The mirrored panels really help in showcasing the bottles and giving depth to the small space. It has inspired me to experiment making new drinks that I before thought were too fussy to bother in a normal setting. Having the sink nearby would have been good, but the area constraints meant we opted against it to preserve storage room. This was a deliberate choice we took during the design phase, and I do not rue it. The extra drawer space for napkins and tools is far more valuable to me in the run period.
There were a few of minor limitations that are fair to noting for a honest perspective. The wait time for the bespoke doors was a bit longer than I originally wanted. It took about eight weeks from the initial payment to the actual installation appointment. While this is expected for high-quality work, it meant a bit of waiting on my end. I had wanted to have it finished for a specific birthday, but we passed that date by a week. However, the updates from the team regarding the progress was regular, so I was never kept in the dark. I rather wait a little longer for a product that is made to endure than have a hasty work that fails after a few years. The initial price quote was additionally a little lower than the final bill, mainly because I decided to upgrade the handles and add extra internal lights midway during the build. These adjustments were entirely my choice, and the team was very transparent about the extra fees involved. Another small point was the amount of boxes remaining following the install. Although the worker cleaned up the work site perfectly, there was a significant amount of waste to get rid of in my recycling. It wasn't a big deal, but a thing to keep in mind if you have little bin space. Despite these small details, the overall journey was very good. The standard of the fit is much superior to anything I could have purchased off-the-shelf. It feels solid and durable, and I am confident it will withstand years of parties. I feel the worth it has given to my property far outweighs the initial cost. It has transformed the way I enjoy my downstairs space, rendering it far more inviting. I no anymore sense cramped when friends visit.
Thinking back on the whole experience, I am really glad I opted ahead with it. The first spark originated from a visit to a friend's house in London, where they had a similar setup. I saw then how greatly it improved the flow of the evening. When I got back to Reading, I began researching local options and found that working with a specialist provider was the best route to get the exact style I wanted. The ability to choose each detail, from the shade of the paint to the placement of the power outlets, made the end result was just as I pictured. I also had a tiny hidden compartment built for keeping expensive items like silver spoons. This kind of customisation is what renders the service special. It didn't feel like a mass-produced piece being fitted into a room where it did not belong. Instead, it feels like it has forever been a segment of the architecture. If you are considering a similar domestic upgrade, my tip would be to remain patient and spend the effort on the planning stage. It is much better to change a sketch than it is to modify a cabinet once it is built. The expertise provided at the beginning was invaluable in stopping me from doing common mistakes, such as putting the fridge too close to a radiator. These little details of wisdom are what you buy for when you choose experienced professionals. I am now looking at other parts of my home to see where else I might add built-in storage. The outcome of this bar job has given me the drive to start a bigger task in the kitchen later season. It is a wonderful addition to my daily routine, and I view forward to numerous years of using it with relatives and pals. Finding the proper balance between style and function was the goal, and I feel we achieved it perfectly. The journey from a cluttered corner to a sleek hosting point was truly deserving the time and investment required. I now possess a home that I am truly proud to show off to visitors. Reading has many great places to visit for a cocktail, but truthfully, I now prefer being at home and using my own private setup. It offers the same feel without the crowds or the commute. That alone was worth the entire project. I am so pleased with how the lighting works in the night, creating a chill environment to relax after a busy shift at work. It is the small luxuries like this that make house living much rewarding and enjoyable. I really value the workmanship that went into the final result. The manner the doors shut with a silent thud tells plenty about the build level. No aspect was ignored, and the total appearance is precisely what I needed it would be when I first started this adventure. It is a credit to the skill of the fitters and the standard of the materials utilised. I am a very happy customer.
